Two killed as bomber hits US Consulate vehicle in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Two persons were killed and 22 others, including two US personnel and four policemen, were injured when a suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden car into an armored-plated vehicle of the US Consulate General close to an UNHCR office in the University Town here on Monday.

RAWALPINDI: Militants launched a brazen attack on the Minhas Airbase of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) at Kamra in the early hours of Thursday. Wearing suicide jackets and equipped with lethal weapons, the terrorists were thwarted by security personnel who killed them in a gun battle before they could reach their target.
This was the third attack on a military base after the attack on the GHQ on October 10, 2009 and on the Mehran Naval Base in Karachi on May 22, 2011. All nine attackers were gunned down while a security personnel, Sepoy Asif Ramzan, was martyred during the operation, the PAF spokesman confirmed. Base Commander Air Commodore Muhammad Azam was among the three security personnel who sustained injuries during the gun battle, PAF sources said, adding that an aircraft equipped with Airborne Warning and Control System (Awacs) was partially damaged when an RPG fired by the attackers hit it.
All the attackers were Pakistanis and belonged to Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an intelligence agency source confirmed. The militants used rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), hand grenades, mines and automatic weapons during the gun battle, sources said.

22 pulled off buses, shot dead at Babusar Top

MANSEHRA: In what appears to be a replay of the Harban Nala attack in Kohistan district, gunmen killed 19 people after establishing their identity through their identity cards at the Babusar Top Pass in Mansehra on Thursday. “The terrorists made the passengers disembark from four vehicles and shot 19 among them, before fleeing the scene,” District Coordination Officer (DCO) Amber Ali Khan told the media.
However, later reports aired by TV channels said 22 passengers were pulled out from three buses and shot dead.Amber Ali Khan, who was the first officer to reach the site of the carnage along with District Police Officer (DPO) Sher Akbar, said the identity of nine victims had been established and one each was from Karachi and Rawalpindi, two each from Diamer and Astore and three from Gilgit.
The attack took place between 6:00am and 7:00am in the morning when terrorists intercepted the vehicles in the remote mountainous area.
It may be noted that Tariq Afridi, the TTP commander for Darra Adamkhel and Khyber Agency, was in the past associated with the anti-Shia Sipah-e-Sahaba militant organisation.
